There was an interesting article in the Detroit Free Press
today titled: U.S. BISHOPS AT CROSSROADS by Patricia Montemurri (Nov. 11, 2013)
which discussed the upcoming conference of U.S. bishops in Baltimore today.
These American bishops were basically promoted by the last
few popes who happened to be pretty conservative so they promoted men who
though like they did. These U.S. bishops are the ones that Pope Francis now
calls “obsessed” with abortion, gay marriage and contraception issues.
Now that Francis is pope and is definitely not obsessed with
the above mentioned issues; do the American bishops now need to get “un-obsessed”
or start focusing on what Francis wants them to focus on which is mainly the
poor and disenfranchised?
We have seen many Catholics including priests and nuns speak
out against the Vatican’s war on society but can we have bishops speak out
against the pope and his very different ideas as to what the church should be
focused on?
Can these bishops change their message to reflect the new
pope’s views?
This will be very interesting to watch…hope the pope stays
healthy and is not poisoned by those that disagree with him…as has happened in
the past.
