PALESTINIANS VOTED FOR HAMAS - WHY?

Re: “Palestinians failed democracy, not the other way around”, Feb. 5
Although I have no reason to disagree with Nolan Finley, “Palestinians failed democracy, not the other way around”, Feb. 5, I would like to think the Palestinians voted for change, plain and simple.
The Palestinians could have voted for Yasser Arafat’s Fatah Party, the bloated, corrupt party, in power for decades with nothing to show for it or give someone else a chance.
We can always hope that Hamas, now finally in power, will realize that their old terrorist ways have to be abandoned if they really want to help their people. I think many Palestinians voted the way they did with this in mind.
