I never write about sports because after all, sports are
sports and not on my “important topics” list but I have to say something after
watching the Washington Redskins vs. Seattle Seahawks game last night.
I happen to love football. Loved playing it when younger and
now love watching it above and beyond any other sport; I actually don’t watch
any other sport.
The game promised to be very exiting since it was a playoff
game and both teams had spectacular black rookie quarterbacks that posed
serious passing and running threats that defenses had to deal with so strategy
would be very interesting to watch.
Well as the game progressed both me and my wife became livid
at Redskin coach Mike Shanahan for continuing to play an obviously injured
Robert Griffin III (RG3). The Redskins scored two early touchdowns but after
that it was all downhill due to RG3’s injury.
What made us even madder was the fact that the Redskins had
a very capable backup quarterback in the former Michigan State standout Kirk
Cousins who has already proved himself very capable of leading the team.
Shanahan waited till RG3 basically collapsed on the field
and probably re-injuring his knee even more and maybe for good.
Why would a coach risk RG3’s career and health seeing that
he was not performing well and could not win the game?
I hope somebody in authority in the NFL takes up this issue
and does something about it. Rules state that a player with an obvious
concussion cannot be returned to the game without a doctor’s permission; well how
about a player that is limping badly?
They shoot horses, don’t they?
