I have written about the situation in Syria recently urging
President Obama to absolutely make sure it was the Syrian troops that actually
used chemical weapons against their own people; it appears that the evidence is
pretty conclusive as far as the White House is concerned.
Now the hard part; what to do.
Obama promised a year ago that he would not allow Syria to “cross
the line” of using chemical weapons and he seems to be tied to his promise…why?
In the discussions I have had with family and friends; most
are furious that Obama wants to attack Syria. Most ask why and what good will it
do. Sarah Palin said “let Allah figure it out” and for the first time, I tend
to agree with her.
There exists an ARAB LEAGUE and the UNITED NATIONS which
should be the ones handling this matter; we are not the world’s police force.
If we really wanted the rebels to win this civil war against
the Assad regime; we would have armed the rebels to allow them to defeat the
government troops but we did not since we could not decide which rebels to arm
but we want to fire Tomahawk missiles at Syrian targets…why???
Obama has really stepped into this one big time and is losing
credibility quickly with the American people, Congress and in world opinion. He
wanted to act alone but now is asking Congress for permission (since the
British parliament said NO to their prime minister) and I am pretty sure that
no one in Congress is stupid enough to allow another war to start especially
when it does not affect us directly but could possibly start an even bigger war
if Iran, etc. decide to enter the fray by attacking Israel.
I will admit that if we actually want Iran to enter the fray
so we would have an excuse to bomb them; it would be better BEFORE they get an atom
bomb; which they will soon enough.
I believe Obama should under any circumstance unilaterally
attack Syrian targets; the Syrians have already moved their military resources
into civilian areas in anticipation of the attack; we would never target
civilian areas.
He should urge the United Nations to act for humanitarian
reasons as it is doing in Africa. Russia will block any UN actions since it has
veto power and so Obama must paint Putin and Russia as a power that allows and
even promotes the use of chemical weapons against innocent civilians; there is
no other road for us.
I think the American people are united in this opinion
against starting another war and Obama needs to heed the people on this one!
