Easter 2012 was a pretty joyous occasion. The weather was
just OK with plenty of sunshine but a 40 mph wind that made things a little
unpleasant. Most of the family made it and we basically followed the traditions
which are more secular these days.
In the old days we had our Easter baskets blessed at the
church but it is hard to find a church that does that anymore and we used to go
to “morning mass” which has also fallen by the wayside but my brother and
sister still observe church services with their families.
The pictures show females inside catching up after a long
winter while the males are outside having their beers and talking about what
males talk about.
The kids were inside and out and since we have many
different levels of kids ( 2 to 18 ) there all have their favorite games to
play.
The bigger kids hide the eggs and help the smaller ones find
the eggs.
All kids participate in our traditional EGG WARS with the
strongest egg declared the winner…boy do we waste a lot of eggs.
Then of course we have great food at Easter with smoked and
fresh kielbasa, lots of ham, asparagus and spring potatoes, hard boiled eggs
marinated in beet juice, butter lambs, variety of breads and a ton of deserts.
This year my niece brought in a variety of chocolate bars that her
brother-in-law produces in Vietnam
of all places and is trying to introduce them into the US . If you run
into MAROU chocolates; it is a member of the family that makes them.
