I have been
following the progress of American Nuns after the stinging rebuke by the Vatican
accusing them of promoting radical feminist themes and taking stands against
Church teachings on homosexuality, contraception and women in the priesthood.
The Detroit News
reported on August 15, 2012 about the outcome of the Leadership Conference of
Women Religious in St. Louis last week: NUN HOLDS OUT HOPE; Sister says
leadership group will remain true to values in light of Vatican criticism, by
M. Keenan.
The Vatican appointed a few American bishops to
clean up that misguided nest of impudent nuns and bring them back under the Vatican ’s heel
where they belong.
The Leadership of
Women Religious which represents most American nuns (57,000) said they were
saddened by being so unappreciated for what they do in this country and
saddened by being abandoned by American bishops who they thought would come to
their defense.
The bishops may have
abandoned them but not the Catholic laity who enthusiastically supported their
stand and continue to do so. The nuns see this overwhelming support by American
Catholics as a desire of many Catholics in this country to see reform in the
church which the nuns promote as part of what they consider the teachings of
the Second Vatican Council.
Please remember that
I have posited and many agree that the current Vatican leadership wants to roll
back what Vatican II promoted and take the church backwards into the days of
darkness and the nuns stand in direct opposition to the Vatican ’s campaign
and must be silenced.
The nuns decided to
present a “humble but not submissive” response to the Vatican ’s painful rebuke. They seek
an “honest dialogue” with the bishops sent to bring them into line with Vatican
directives and hopefully reach a certain understanding with them within an
environment of mutual respect…good luck with that sisters; the bishops are not
there to listen but to give orders.
These nuns actually
see themselves as having rights equal to those of men…can you believe such
hubris?... (that’s arrogance).
They feel they have
a mission to help those in need, the homeless, those in prison, those on drugs,
those hurt by the economy and those suffering because of their sexual
orientation. The nuns say that those downtrodden people would be who Jesus
would befriend and minister to if he was here…but what does Jesus have to do
with the Vatican
and their Catholic Church?
The nuns say that
they are on the front lines with real people with real earthly problems that
the Vatican does not understand or does not want to understand and they are
correct because to them the welfare of real humanity does not matter, it is all
about their contrived dogma and their desperate effort to keep themselves in
power in the midst of a general revolt among the faithful who see the Vatican
as a nest of corrupt and perverted old men.
The nuns represent
the voices of reform that have appeared throughout the history of the Catholic
Church when the church had stumbled and needed someone or some group to put it
back on the right path.
I hope the nuns stay
strong and focused and if they do, we may be witnessing history in action.
