Well, the Michigan primary is getting closer and the airwaves getting hotter with negative ads flying all over the place. I have also received a lot of campaign literature and as per my last blog; the use of the abortion issue is troubling to me with Virg Bernero focusing EXCLUSIVELY on Andy Dillon’s anti-choice stance and now on his anti-stem cell research stance.
Some University of Michigan stem cell scientists released statements to the media saying that the anti-choice candidates would threaten progress on stem cell research EVEN THOUGH MICHIGAN VOTERS APPROVED STEM CELL RESEARCH. The same is happening with abortion which is legal and the law of the land but those opposed to allowing individual abortion “choice” are doing everything in their power to make it practically impossible to “choose” to have an abortion.
Originally, I decried the use of the abortion issue in the primary when the economy should be the issue everyone is concentrating on but…
I asked my wife if she would vote for Andy Dillon knowing he is anti-choice and anti-stem cell research but a good fiscal manager of the state budget. She said NO because, in her mind, a person that holds social views like Dillon does, has a fundamental character flaw that makes him, in her eyes, unfit to represent her as governor of the state she lives in. So here, Bernero’s strategy of using the “choice” issue is actually working BUT I can never vote for Bernero because of his union ties which will not help Michigan garner quality jobs; those will go to “right-to-work” states.
The only thing I can think of doing that will allow me to not compromise my social principles but yet vote for someone that will actually do some good for the state and its residence and that is to vote Republican and vote for RICK SNYDER. He feels that abortion / choice should not be an issue because it’s the ECONOMY STUPID that is the real issue if we are to make the state economically viable again. All the other Republican candidates are “politicians” and that is NOT what Michigan needs in these trying times.
Hopefully the outcome of the primaries will pit RICK SNYDER against VIRG BERNERO in November and to me, SNYDER would be the best choice for Michigan. It will be hard for Snyder since Bernero will have all that union money behind him but hey, that is a fight still to come so all you like minded people, PLEASE VOTE IN THE REPUBLICAN PRIMARY AND PLEASE VOTE FOR RICK SNYDER.
