POLITICS IN THE NEW YEAR: Michigan...a new direction?

The State of Michigan is also entering an exiting time in politics. Our new governor Rick Snyder is a self-described nerd and a successful businessman and NOT a politician, has some great ideas which he will start implementing immediately.

He seems to listen to the advice of a Michigan economic think-tank called the Mackinac Center which I support full heartedly. The center is conservative in that it doesn’t play politics; they recommend what is necessary to bring the state back into economic viability.

Democratic governors such as Jennifer Granholm could not bring themselves to do what is necessary such as putting unions in their place but Snyder will or at least, I hope he will.

Snyder has to make some very unpopular decisions that will irritate a lot of people but that is the only way things will get better and if his decisions turn things around in the first two years, he will be re-elected by a grateful electorate.

Snyder has the benefit of a Republican majority in the State legislature which I am hoping will make things much easier for him to accomplish his plan.

I will be following what he does quite closely because it is historic in nature; changing the way Michigan has operated since the 1920s.
