PRESIDENT OBAMA: Birthers are assholes?

Official presidential portrait of Barack Obama...Image via Wikipedia

I was pretty disgusted that President Obama had to issue the long form of his birth certificate to allay the nagging questions regarding his American citizenship.

I personally do not think he should have done that because it actually helps him politically since it paints all “birthers” as total assholes; I know people that are birthers (deny that Obama was born in Hawaii) and I am sorry but on this subject you are assholes and I may throw in, racists too.

I say racists because I believe that no white president would ever be questioned in this way even if questions about their birth status did exist. There are a ton of politicians that were not born in the U.S. and I believe that in the near future some of them will want to run for President and I believe our Constitution that stipulates only a natural born American can hold that office, will have to be changed.

Looking at the politicians that call themselves birthers (Trump, Palin, Huckabee etc.), I am amazed at the need to question Obama’s birth status as a political weapon; what benefit does that give you politically?

Am I not seeing something here?

They actually tried to pass a law in Arizona that stipulates that all presidential candidates prove their U.S. citizenship before being allowed on the ballot. Even their governor, who has some issues herself, vetoed it as stupid. Maybe they have too much sun in Arizona?

POPE JOHN PAUL II: No saint to me...

I was interested to see a number of articles over the weekend addressing the sainthood (Beatification) process for Pope John Paul II.

After the Polish Pope died, people were calling for immediate sainthood and Pope Benedict did put the process by which people are declared saints on a fast track (much faster than usual) and the process seems to be coming to an end with the late pope’s sainthood to be announced and celebrated in early May.

Everyone agrees that the late Karol Wojtyla was a very popular pope and is remembered for some impressive accomplishments during his long papacy with helping to bring down Communism one of the more important ones.

He was the first Polish pope and he was compared to a “rock star” of popes as he traveled the world, sought communion with other faiths, encouraged young people and was very much admired by people of all faiths.

So with all this admiration and all these great accomplishments, why are some saying HOLD THE HALO!

As proud as I should have been of a Polish pope, I wasn’t really. I was saddened by his lack of progressive thinking on social issues which I expected from a pope that tasted normal life for some time and should have gained some experience as a normal human living on earth and not some immature male that was pushed into a seminary before he has tasted adulthood.

No he smiled a lot but he did not do any deep thinking on contraception, priestly celibacy, ordination of women, divorce and remarriage and just stuck to the old and tired thinking that no longer made sense in the new world.

I could forgive him for his regressive and immature thinking BUT I cannot forgive him for failing to protect hundreds if not thousands of innocent children from molestation by his priests and bishops which was occurring during his watch.

He also supported Rev. Marcial Maciel Degollado, the founder, and known pedophile, of the Legion of Christ which together with Opus Dei were John Paul’s attack dogs against the Jesuits and other progressive theologians and by the way, they also contributed millions to Rome.

Some defenders of the pope say he was naïve and maybe duped into inaction against grave sins by his priests but I have to believe that a CEO is responsible for the actions of his workers no matter what and he was the CEO.

Benedict will make him a saint just like he will make Pius XII a saint even though Pius did not speak out against the holocaust during WWII; that is how the Church works, they bury their dirty laundry and the sheep they keep on coming, kneeling and praying to the saints with dirty hands, minds and souls.

Mother Theresa was a saint to me even though at the end, she admitted that there was no God because if there was one, He would never allow all the suffering that exists in the world. Mother Theresa was a human taking care of her fellow humans because she could and she wanted to because that was the right thing to do…John Paul II was no saint.

AFTER EASTER: Smingus Dyngus Day...Polish Tradition

The Monday after Easter it rained all day long and we said that we were lucky that it waited till Easter was over.

Monday after Easter, in the Polish tradition, is called SMYNGUS DYNGUS DAY and in Poland, the whole country gets the day off.

As Catholic as Poland is, it appears that they have retained some “pagan” practices; can’t believe the Church allowed them or maybe they had no choice.

I have always maintained that Easter is nothing more than a celebration of SPRING that was intruded on by the Christian church who just could not see people having fun celebrating nature as they have for thousands of years.

The original tradition, as I have been told, involved young men splashing water (or perfume) on ladies that they especially admired or even wanted to woo. Mother Nature does encourage “love” in the spring as evidenced by the animals and we are nothing if not members of the animal kingdom.

Anyway, as the years grew, the special tradition deteriorated into basically a “wash” where people dump buckets of water on people sleeping in their beds or wait for them to pass by and hose them down…all with fun in mind so you could not get mad even though you had to go home and change into dry clothes or remain in the wet ones since someone on the next block would hose you down again.

Interesting tradition that I am told is practiced in most of the Slavic countries…

EASTER: Grand time was had by all...

Boy did we luck out on Easter with the weather; it was perfect and we thought it would be a wash-out.

We got to hide the eggs outside and the kids got to search for them and we had our usual “war of the eggs” where the kid with the strongest eggs is crowned “Easter King or Queen”.

We have kids from 17 to 1 and they all play together quite well even though the 14 year-old Jason is already 6’4” tall.

The kids get to see the youngest one (LUKE) now turned one, show his stuff; before he was just a lump and no fun at all.

Great family tradition and a great way to welcome Spring…

JOHN McCAIN: Running for president again?:

John McCainImage via Wikipedia

What the hell was Senator John McCain doing in Libya; has he gone senile?

First he criticized Obama for going into Libya and now he is bitching that Obama is not doing more to help the Libyan rebels; you can’t have it both ways.

Is he running for president again?

He said Obama should have recognized the rebels as the legitimate government of Libya. Hell the rebels themselves don’t know who is in charge at any given moment.

I agree that Khadafy should not be allowed to stay in power but isn’t that what NATO and the English and French are supposed to take care of? Why should we always be the ones spending all the money; they have troops and planes too.

This trip by McCain smells; is it some form of Republican attack on Obama?

Has McCain finally lost his marbles?

I am sure there is much more to this than meets the eye…

PASTOR TERRY JONES: How stupid can we get?

DEARBORN, MI - APRIL 22: Police guard the Isl...Image by Getty Images via @daylife

A few quickies while getting the house ready for a big Easter family gathering: Pastor Terry Jones.

I could not believe what the hell happened on Good Friday with the Koran burning pastor from Florida.

He has been letting everyone know that he was coming to Dearborn, Michigan (largest Muslim population in the U.S.) and protest against Islamic terrorism in front of the large mosque there. OK her has every right to do that so…

When he arrives in Detroit, he is basically arrested and taken to a Dearborn court to stand trial? It appears that our Wayne County prosecutor, Kim Worthy, had issued some kind of legal document that would require him to post a “Peace Bond” whatever the hell that is, to pay for the money being paid to the police department to perform crowd control during the pastor’s protest…what?

I have never seen so much legal horseshit as I saw this Friday. I can’t believe a judge actually agreed to hear this case making us all look like idiots and giving Jones the media attention he so craves. Jones has every right to sue the living shit out of Dearborn and Wayne County meaning us poor taxpayers.

Jones has First Amendment rights to protest wherever he wants and for whatever reason he wants; we all have that right. To stop him from protesting has got to be some serious violation of his Constitutional rights. Who in the hell came up with this legal crap and why – Kim Worthy? What the hell was she thinking?

Jones came with his assistant to protest. It was raining yesterday and he would have stood outside the Mosque and protested…what the hell is wrong with that?

But no, we could not leave it alone. We had all these religious bigwigs, dressed in all their costumes come together at the Mosque to show solidarity with the Muslims for what? Did they think Jones was going to come and bomb them?

I hope the people responsible for this idiocy will get their asses kicked big time; they sure made asses out of us all here in Michigan and especially Dearborn where even the mayor of Dearborn made an ass of himself in the media.

Can you believe it; the ACLU is planning to sue on behalf of Pastor Jones and the denial of his rights as an American.

Did the local media orchestrate this?

DETROIT: Public Library infected with same ole' Detroit culture...

Steacie Science and Engineering Library at Yor...Image via Wikipedia

I read a story in the Detroit News this morning that could drive people insane. It was another story about Detroit and why the city is doomed unless we blow up the culture that doomed it in the first place.

The story concerns the Detroit Public Library Main Branch in downtown Detroit. I think I may have been there once during my college days (1960s) at Wayne State University. I really did not need to use this public library since Wayne State had a great one.

I do remember my local public library branch on Martin Street (Conley Branch?) that I used often during grade school and high school for research and of course to meet girls.

I was saddened but not surprised that Detroit would be forced to close 18 local library branches due to budget cuts as even the suburbs are closing their libraries for the same reasons; hell the whole state is in a budget crisis and has to make some painful cuts in spending.

Detroit school kids need their libraries to be open so when a report detailing how the main Detroit Library underwent a remodeling of its South Wing that ballooned from $300,000 to $2.3 million was made public, one can be excused for getting a little upset.

The library is controlled by the Library Commission which is appointed by the Detroit Board of Education. You will remember the Detroit Board is the same board that destroyed the Detroit Public School system (DPS) and gave the emergency financial manager so much grief when he started cleaning up the corruption and mismanagement that ran rampant throughout the system…yup…it’s the same ole’ culture.

I can forgive the library commissioners somewhat since the project was voted on in 2008 when things were not as bleak as now but when one hears of library chairs costing over $1,000 each, light fixtures over $500 each and fireplaces (in a library?) costing over $5,000 each, one has to stop and think, who was in charge?

There is more…there are bills detailing over $160,000 in food bills…yes, the librarians ordered out quite often because they worked so hard, poor dears…$1,760 for ice cream?

The library gave its union workers a 6% increase when the union did not ask for a raise and most public employees were taking 10% cuts. Now they have to lay off those workers and close branches.

I have been harping away for a very long time at the Detroit “culture” of hiring incompetent and corrupt officials who hire their incompetent and corrupt friends to run city departments because it’s “their” city and they will do what the hell they want to with it, even blow it up into smithereens…

I did see one ray of hope recently when Mayor Bing told the city council that if they don’t let him clean the city up, the state will appoint an emergency manager that will tell them all what to do with “their” city.

The council in all its wisdom quickly put two and two together (a great feat for them) and asked, “Can the mayor be given these emergency powers?” at least this way it would not be a hard ass stranger kicking their asses but one of their own.

BUDGET POLITICS: Medicare will be a big issue...

President Lyndon Johnson foresaw the end of th...Image via Wikipedia
President Obama has started his re-election campaign and is out and about and harping about the Republicans and how their budget proposals are “bad” for Americans.

He is mainly going to target MEDICARE and how the Republicans want to eliminate it as we know it.

Do not confuse Medicare with Social Security which is an “old age retirement” pension program that is based on your lifetime earnings and kicks in at 67 (for me) but will be moved up to an older age as we live and work longer.

Medicare, which was enacted in my lifetime, came on board in 1965 under the ole’ war on poverty guy, Lyndon B. Johnson and was designed as healthcare for the elderly. It kicks in at age 65 and is financed as subtractions from the employee's Social Security monthly payments.

For many people, Medicare pays out a lot more for an individual’s healthcare expenses than an individual has contributed through his working career… so it is a good deal.

The fact that many people absolutely depend on this coverage or will depend on it in their retirement years makes it a “sacred cow” issue meaning “don’t mess with my retirement benefits”. And this is what Obama is counting on; that voters will not stand for anyone messing with the issue like the Republicans are proposing to do.

I consider this to be an unfair charge because previous administrations (Democratic and Republican) did not have the political balls to take on this most sacred of issues while knowing full well that it MUST be addressed sooner or later or it will collapse under its own weight; yes, Obama is playing politics with the issue.

The problem with Medicare is that it is an unsustainable expense that keeps increasing every year and the retirement of the baby boomers (largest single generation to retire all at once in history) will overwhelm the plan and collapse it.

One huge expense in the Medicare system is FRAUD. I have worked within the medical industry for over 30 years and know full well how people enrich themselves illegally by manipulating the system for billions and billions of dollars. Even today you hear of people getting arrested for defrauding Medicare for millions but those getting caught represent only 1% of those actively defrauding the system.

Our government is stupid and cannot police itself; government workers don’t give a shit as I have mentioned before…remember public unions…its not my money…actually it is because it’s the taxpayer’s money.

The Republicans are proposing giving people who are 65 or older a money voucher to go find and pay for their own elderly health insurance. My mother (89) has Medicare Plus and belongs to the Henry Ford HAP system. The care is fantastic and she has very little out of pocket expenses. HAP is private and makes sure it offers the best of care but also makes a profit; something the government does not.

People not participating in a Medicare Plus Plan like my mother go to doctors and clinics that accept Medicare as health insurance. The physician / clinic perform medical procedures on the elderly patient and then bill the government (Medicare) for those services; the government here is acting like an insurance company.

The problem with this plan is that Medicare does not control the care given; all it does is pay and is at the mercy of the people that submit bills to it, in some cases fraudulently. This would disappear if the elderly patient bought a private insurance plan that would take care of his or her medical needs while trying to operate at peak efficiency so as to make a profit…get it?

I can see that this will be a ticklish issue and the Republicans will have a hell of a time explaining it, especially to the elderly – hell I am having a hard time making it simple but you have to start somewhere and not just kick the can down the road.

The reality on the ground today is that people will support increasing taxes on the rich but will not support messing with their entitlements...

SPRING WEATHER: Michigan style Spring weather...

I was checking up on my friend in North Carolina after 62 tornados hit his state and actually I have been checking up on various friends around the country that have been getting hit with bad weather lately and always being thankful for living in Michigan where we seem to be protected from Mother Nature’s worst weather tirades BUT…

This morning, we here in Michigan were reminded not to plant our flowers too early because no matter how green the lawn…we can get dumped on at any given moment and we did…2-4 inches when we woke up…surprise!

NATIONAL BUDGET: No new taxes before wasteful spending eliminated...

WASHINGTON, DC - APRIL 05: U.S. Rep. Paul Rya...Image by Getty Images via @daylife
No doubt you have been following the battle of the national budget going on in Washington, DC.

On the one hand are the Republicans, being pushed by their Tea Party partners, to cut wasteful spending to the bone and on the other hand, Obama and his Democrats trying to pay for the wasteful spending by raising taxes on the rich or people making more than $250,000 a year.

On the surface, doing the right thing appears to be quite clear but this is politics where everything and anything is far from clear. You see, for politicians it is about getting re-elected and holding on to power and not about doing something good for the country and its people and I am talking about both Republicans and Democrats.

I look at the national budget the way I look at my own finances; I don’t spend more than I bring in… our government spends trillions more than it brings in.

To cut spending is a no brainer especially when there are federal reports showing billions in “wasteful” spending, spending that brings the country absolutely no benefit and should be stopped but is not…why…politics.

The Democrats have always been spenders, one social program after another, which is their basic philosophy…welfare nation. But to pay for all that largesse, they need to raise taxes on their favorite targets, the so called rich (>$250,000); the 10% of wage-earners that already pay 75% of all taxes.

The Republicans, haters of taxes, but spending fools under Bush would rather cut benefits to Americans rather than stop spending billions a day on wasteful wars. They also feel that cutting funding to Planned Parenthood / abortions will solve our budget crisis.

So there you have it…a bloody mess with a bunch of bloody fools in charge of fixing it…hopeless? – Sure seems that way to me.

We will be talking about this issue at some length as the battle rages because I think it is extremely important to our welfare and the welfare of our children and grandchildren and will influence how we vote in 2012 but I will start with one principle that I will be stressing to my representatives in Congress:

NO NEW TAXES UNTIL WASTEFUL SPENDING IS ELIMINATED FIRST…

CATHOLIC BISHOP: It was just a little intimate game...

As Catholics worldwide celebrate Palm Sunday and the Pope’s birthday, the stain that is the priestly sexual abuse scandal just won’t wash away and in fact, is getting darker and darker every day.

The latest on the scandal involves Bishop Roger Vangheluwe (74) of Bruges, Belgium. He resigned as Bishop of Bruges in 2010 after admitting that he had sexually abused a nephew for 13 years until the boy was 18. He was suspended from performing mass and other public services but by Vatican law, a bishop is bishop for life and cannot be removed from that title, so he enjoys his status in a wooded Catholic retreat in the French countryside.

What brought his story to my attention is the TV interview he gave recently where, it appears to many, he either defended his actions or at least, minimized them as insignificant and he is probably not the only Catholic cleric that thinks…what’s the big deal?...and that is very significant and disturbing in the whole scheme of things.

The bishop denied he is a pedophile saying he was never attracted to children that way and he described his sexual abuse of his two nephews as “a little game” of fondling but no “rough sex” and no “real sexuality”. He called it a little bit of intimacy but “I was never naked” and he later concurred that it (fondling) was probably not quite right.

This is the speech of a sexual adolescent which I believe many priests and bishops are because they join the priesthood at an early age when they are not sexually mature and never really become sexually mature after becoming priests; they remain sexual adolescents even into old age.

This is what I maintain is the problem with the path to priesthood; the priests that emerge are not normal mature men, they remain sexually ignorant but curious boys and that needs to change if this problem is to be tackled realistically and the only way this can be realistically tackled is to allow priests to marry and allow married men to become priests.

It now become obvious why the Vatican and a string of Popes under whose watch these abuses occurred did nothing, remained quiet and swept everything under the rug; they did not think the abuses were a big deal because they were all a bunch of adolescent, sexually immature twits, playing their little sexual games while proclaiming to be vicars of Christ on earth…how twisted is that?

Happy Palm Sunday?

WEDDING ANNIVERSARY: 40th at ZAZIOS in Birmingham, MI.

Celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary in high style this Saturday.

My daughter Tanya and her husband Peter took us and the in-laws here from Scotland to ZAZIOS in Birmingham.

This was really a treat and an adventure as we sat at the CHEF’S TABLE where the food was prepared by two chefs in front of us and the five courses served with accompanying selected wines. The chefs also described everything they were doing so it was a kind of cooking class as well.

A fine time was had by one and all…

IRAQ: Keep our troops there forever?

Tomb of Muhammad in Madinah, Saudi ArabiaImage via Wikipedia
I have been blogging about the Iraq War since the very beginning. I considered the war as senseless, perpetrated by a delusional President Bush who imagined building democracies in the Middle East and it cost us gobs of money and thousands of dead soldiers and countless thousands of dead civilians.

I remarked then that the country of Iraq needs to be divided into three regions (Shia, Sunni and Kurd) and the oil business to be nationalized and profits distributed on a per capita basis to all of Iraq, otherwise a civil war will take place and may involve other powers (Saudi Arabia, Iran and Turkey).

Now I hear that our government is taking a second look at pulling our troops out of Iraq (47,000) which it promised to do and maybe leaving them there on a permanent basis?

Why? To avoid a civil war which, as I have stated over and over, is inevitable? Protests have already arisen in Baghdad against leaving our troops there; they want the civil war to start so that they can garner power and create a new Iraq, most probably, one run by clerics as in Iran.

Should we go or should we stay…well, we can’t afford to keep troops there…maybe if Iraq paid us for the service?

Does it make sense to prevent a civil war? -If a civil war ends in Iraq becoming another Iran…maybe.

It will be interesting to see what others think…

GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN: Averted...abortion really?

BURBANK, CA - APRIL 08: Offices of Planned Pa...Image by Getty Images via @daylife
I just have to say a few words about the antics of both political parties on the road to a government shutdown.

Obviously you heard that a shutdown was averted in the last second when Obama agreed to more cuts and the Republicans dropped their abortion/Planned Parenthood attack.

In my last blog on the subject, I was totally beside myself that an imminent government shutdown hinged on a social issue; abortion and not an economics issue.

I have mentioned in the past that the TEA PARTY may tell us that they are all about the economy and how to cut waste in the government but underneath lays the far right religious agenda meant to establish a Christian hold on the government and all the people in this country.

Is that a little too much conspiracy theory? I don’t think so.

I think that once the Democrats announced to the public that what was holding up the deal on the budget was a social issue and not a spending issue (since funding Planned Parenthood is 0.00000000000000000001% of the budget), the Republicans had to save face and beat a fast retreat to save the Tea Party image as budget cutters and not flaming religious nut-cases.

As far as the real issue of spending cuts is concerned, the Democrats are going to have to agree to spending cuts which is against their philosophy especially with social programs and the Republicans are going to have to be willing to cut some of their own sacred cows like defense.

FREE TRADE PACTS: Obama / Unions blocking pacts...

Free trade areas are a difficult subject. It i...Image via Wikipedia
For those of you who care about such things, I want to comment on Obama’s handling of various trade pacts which I consider essential to growing our economy on a global level.

I think all people, including politicians; accept the fact that free trade is the best approach (as opposed to protectionism) to growing our economy. We have to ad the proviso that free trade must also be fair trade; everyone playing by the rules.

The have been trade pacts signed with Columbia, Panama and South Korea on the president’s desk and yet he has not moved on them…why?

It appears that our friends, the unionists, are blocking these trade pacts especially the ones with Columbia and Panama…why?

These trade pacts would make it easier for us to sell our goods into those countries and visa versa…again…good for the economy especially the export business in this country.

The unions are always against these free trade pacts because they know that U.S. goods made by union labor do not have a chance at competing with Columbian or Panamanian goods made by non-union labor.

So the unions here are demanding that the language in the trade pacts include provisions for unions to form in those non-union countries with the goal of eventually making the cost of producing goods in the U.S. and Columbia / Panama, equal…get it?

And President Obama does what the unions tell him to do…

The unions defend their position or opposition to the trade agreements by saying that all they want is for foreign workers to enjoy the same wages and benefits as U.S. union members do…violin playing in the background.

It seems to me that for capitalism to function properly we must keep trade free and if other countries have a cost advantage over us because they have cheaper, non-union labor, so be it.

I don’t know if you noticed but in China, the export leader, wages are starting to go up because the people there, having tasted the fruits of capitalism, are demanding more and getting it.

Manufacturing companies around the world are looking for cheaper labor (Vietnam?) but eventually cheap-cheap labor will not be available and what the U.S. unions want to happen will happen but naturally through the capitalist system and not through union intimidation in the U.S.

Obama – quit being a union stooge!

SYRIA: What do the rioters want?

The Assad family. Hafez al-Assad and his wife,...Image via Wikipedia
We have all been reading about the upheavals in the Middle East where peoples in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Syria, Jordan, Yemen and Bahrain rebelled against their governments for freedom?

Being the products of the American Revolutionary War where our ancestors fought for freedom from English tyranny and the right to pursue happiness on their own terms, we obviously feel for the plight of the oppressed around the world and especially now for those in the Middle East.

Before we get too caught up in our fight for freedom type emotions, let us remember some realities.

In the 1960s, it was all about countries and peoples rebelling against their colonial rulers, especially in Africa and in Asia. For some it turned out well for others like Rhodesia / Zimbabwe, among others, things actually deteriorated and the people suffered under a new, less benevolent dictator, even though he was one of them and not a foreigner; remember Idi Amin?

Same thing in Iran; threw one dictator out and got another but this time a religious dictator and not a secular dictator; which one is worst? – I think the people want the old one back.

Syria has been under the strong hand of a dictator for over 40 years; first Hafez al-Assad and then his son Bashar al-Assad.

Syria has been a pain in the ass for the U.S. because it supports all sorts of terrorist organizations including Hamas, Hezbollah, etc. The irony is that Syria is a secular state, no religious radicals allowed, but it supports Islamic religious terrorists.

The current rioting in Syria has resulted in many deaths usually people shot by the Syrian police forces. But what is it these rioters are rioting for?

The government has given in to some of the demands like dropping the ban on wearing Islamic veils for teachers in Syrian schools; yes, the people want the return of burquas?

The other demand was to close all casinos. Is this something I would be willing to risk my life for?

It appears, at this stage, that the people rioting and dying are being led by religious zealots similar to the clerics in Iran. If this is true, the country and its people could be in for a rough ride.

Syria, like other countries in the Middle East, were drawn up by Western powers (French in this case) after WWII and encompassed a variety of peoples. Syria is 74% Sunni, 13% Shia with an Alawite sub group, 10% Christians and 3% Druze, of all people.

A democratic or parliamentary form of government would be ideal for Syria but it does not appear that Syria is headed in that direction.

I could be wrong and I hope I am wrong because the Syrian people have been severely oppressed for a long time.

An interesting side note: People in Syria  were recently allowed access to the internet. Is this the new revolutionary tool of the world?
