FREE TRADE AGREEMENTS: Unions keep blocking what the economy needs...

United States President Barack Obama signs int...Image via Wikipedia

I have written in the past about the importance of Free Trade Agreements because they help people like me who EXPORT a lot of their products overseas. The agreements help create jobs as our exports grow and seeing how everything in our stores is MADE IN CHINA, our government should do everything in its power to US businesses EXPORT.

The three Free Trade Agreements I have been talking about are with S. Korea, Columbia and Panama. Obama says he wants to help American companies export more so they can create more jobs and help the economy get out of its doldrums but he is allowing the goddamn unions to stall these agreements.

The unions are against these Free Trade Agreements because to them U.S. exports are fine but they don’t want any imports because they will compete with American goods and as in the China case, they are correct because even American companies import from China because their labor there, at least till now, made those goods cheaper to make there because union labor here is too expensive.

The problem is that if we don’t pass these agreements, those countries will sign agreements with the EU (European Union) and we will be just out of luck.

So since all reasonable people realize that it would be in our best interest to sign these agreements as quickly as possible, why the hold up this time?

The hold up is because of the TRADE ADJUSTMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM. Yup, another union welfare bill where union workers receive benefits if somehow it is determined that their jobs were displaced by cheaper imports or shall we say, foreign competition.

Well, excuse me but when you sign a Free Trade Agreement it means we can export to them without hindrance but also they can export to us; that’s as simple as it gets…we create new jobs due to higher exports, we lose some jobs due to higher imports…you can’t have it any other way.

So just because Joe Blow lost his job making socks because the socks from Panama are better and cheaper, does not mean that I (the taxpayer) have to pay him benefits. It all evens out as the jobs lost making socks (just an example) are made up by the jobs created because we are now selling more wine (made up) to Panama…get it?

Obama needs to do what is right for the country and its citizens and not the goddamn unions; he needs to change quickly or he will not get re-elected because people are starting to notice that he is a union lackey and is not paying attention to what the rest of the country needs and wants but only to fat cat union bosses.
